En Boston-arkitekt har bygget et drømmehus til sig og sin kæreste, hvorefter hun slår op med ham. En kort affære med Gwen, en servitrice på en ungarsk restaurant, medfører at hun flytter ind i huset og giver sig ud for at være hans kone. Efter mange forviklinger, der involverer arkitektens forældre, hans chef og hans ex-kæreste, ender Gwen med at blive hans kone.
