Seminars in Europe

A short video “What is Film” made by the partners from MIMEA Hungary, host of one of the regional seminars.

Four regional seminars took the key themes of the MOOC as starting points for debates around film education, offered the possibility for various organizations to present their work and encouraged intensified regional networking in the future. The seminars took place as follows:

  • Tallin, Estonia: 27-28 August 2020 – for Baltics, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia
  • Athens, Greece: 9-10 October 2020 – for Eastern Mediterranean countries
  • Budapest, Hungary: 15-17 October 2020 – for Visegrad countries
  • Ljubljana, Slovenia: 26-27 January 2021 – for South East Europe

The COVID pandemic, which inflicted travel restrictions and the ban on meetings in many countries, meant that the seminars were postponed and moved online – or combined with onsite participation. This was a significant challenge for the organizations that were hosting the seminars.  They all rose to the challenge and produced excellent events, which attracted significantly more attendees than expected. In total, 227 lead practitioners from 20 countries attended the seminars:

The hybrid format was beneficial to individuals and members of small organizations who might have found it difficult to travel to meetings. The many online conferences during the Pandemic in general allowed an intense promotion of the Film Education: From Framework to Impact program.
