Another Round off to a great start in Danish cinemas

BOX OFFICE. Thomas Vinterberg's 'Another Round' has performed well at the Danish box office during its opening weekend, selling upwards of 102,000 tickets, including sneak previews. Winning at the San Sebastian Film Festival this weekend, the film earned positive reviews and American distribution at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month. London and Busan Film Festivals coming up next.

There is cause for celebration for the Danish exhibitors as Thomas Vinterberg's new feature film, 'Another Round', has reignited the box office, selling over 102,000 tickets during its opening weekend, including pre-screenings.

This makes the film the biggest opening since the cinemas invited the audience back inside post-corona in May. In comparison, Vinterberg's 'The Hunt' sold 134,000 tickets during its opening weekend in 2013, and 'Klovn the Final', released pre-corona in January 2020, opening with 148,000.

'Another Round' has been making its way around the international festival circuit after being garnered with the Cannes Official Selection Label in May and subsequently winning the Art House Cinema Award presented by the French Arthouse Cinema Association, AFCAE, as the best among 12 official Cannes 2020 titles.

'Another Round' had its physical premiere at Toronto Film Festival where it received positive reviews and earned top spots in a number of categories at IndieWire's annual critics' pool.

Furthermore, the four lead actors, Mads Mikkelsen, Magnus Millang, Lars Ranthe and Thomas Bo Larsen, received the Best Actor trophy at San Sebastian Film Festival on Saturday, 26 September, where the film also took home the Feroz Zinemaldia award given by the Spanish press to the best film in competition as well as the Signis Award from the Catholic Film Organisation.

Hamburg Film Festival is showcasing the film until 3 October. Next up are, among others, the festivals in London (7-18 October) and Busan (21-30 October), as well as a broad cinema release in France set for 14 October.

'Another Round' has its starting point in the theory that we should be born with a small amount of alcohol in our blood, and that modest inebriation opens our minds to the world and increases our creativity. Heartened by that theory, four weary high school teachers embark on an experiment to maintain a constant level of intoxication throughout the workday.

Thomas Vinterberg wrote the script with Tobias Lindholm. Sisse Graum Jørgensen and Kasper Dissing produced for Zentropa in co-production with Film i Väst, Zentropa Sweden, Topkapi Films and Zentropa Netherlands with support from the Danish Film Institute, TV 2 DENMARK, Eurimages, the Netherlands Film Fund, Svenska Filminstitutet, the Netherlands Film Production Incentive and the MEDIA Programme of the European Union. International sales are handled by TrustNordisk.

'Another Round' premiered in Denmark on 24 September.
