Time and time again, we hear about cases where developmentally disabled citizens are subjected to gross neglect, degrading treatment, sexual abuse, violence and even death in care homes across the country.
In the documentary series, we follow five families who struggle to support their developmentally disabled adult children in their encounters with institutions and authorities.
These are some of society's most vulnerable people, unable to speak up for themselves and completely dependent on the support they receive. The question is whether we have a system that helps them, or whether the treatment in residential care facilities makes them even worse.
