In the years 1960-1973, hundreds of Danish psychiatric patients were attempted to be treated with LSD. Doctors were accused of subjecting patients to life-threatening treatments, coercion, and human experimentation, but were acquitted. Now, after 60 years, a concealed LSD archive emerges from one of the LSD doctors, casting doubt on the authorities' decision in one of Denmark's most bizarre psychiatric scandals.
The docudrama 'The Insane Experiment' is the story of systemic failures and psychiatric patients who hoped for help. At the same time, it is the tale of how people can lose themselves to be part of a community and lose their own judgment in the belief of an idea.
