Tamara is a woman in revolt. She is a rebellion. A resistance against centuries of patriarchal tyranny, social control and the silence of oppression. From her home in the suburbs of Copenhagen, 35-year old Tamara leads a lonely but relentless fight that stretches far beyond Denmark’s borders reaching deep into the heart of an Iraq she fled as a child, but never truly escaped. As the founder of the online platform “Iraqi Women’s Rights”, Tamara has spent more than a decade being a voice against social control, honor based violence and a parliament voting for more and more oppressive laws against women. Drawing from her own scars, her pain, and her extraordinary resilience, she uses her voice to resist the oppressive forces. But it is not just a story of an activist's burning passion for women's rights. It is a story of a woman who once loved - and was shattered. Who has felt violence and shame on her own body. Her personal experience of love turning into control and abuse is what fuels her fire. And while the big hero of her life, her father, fades away with dementia, she seeks to do the most important thing he taught her - To speak up and protest when things are wrong. She is a mother, a daughter, a sister - and a burning voice for countless women without rights and laws to protect them.
While facing invisible enemies and online threats, Tamara is also trying to build a new life with her son in Denmark becoming independent from her violent ex husband. Burning Voice is a story about social control, the seek of identity between countries and cultures. It is about love and resistance. About a woman who refuses to be a victim and instead becomes a fighter. A fight not just for herself, but for a generation of women.
