Free as a Bird

»Free as a Bird« is the third part of a trilogy about children of war. The film is about Ivana, who is now fifteen years old. With the exception of Alen, her big brother, Ivana has lost her whole family in the Yugoslavian conflict. Now she is living in England, together with her brother and a family that she met in a refugee camp in Croatia. Ivana struggles to be accepted among her new companions and to make a place for herself in her new country. She tries to work through her traumatic past, but at the same time she is strong-willed, wants to live in the present and look at the future with optimism.

»Som fugle i bur«/»Like Birds in a Cage« (1994) and »Krig er ikke for børn«/»War is Not a Children's Game« (1996) were the first parts in Weischenfeldt's trilogy about children of war. »Free as a Bird« completes the trilogy.
