It's winter. Ernst and Mother are going to skate on the frozen lake in the park. Ernst sees a sweet little skating princess zipping around on the ice. Ernst takes his first strides on the ice ¿ but he cannot stop and falls ¿ splat! ¿ in front of a roped-off area where the ice is too thin. Ernst gets up again. The skating princess whizzes on past him. Ernst tries to follow her, as well as he can, on his skates.
