Filmen følger cirkusprinsessen Katja Schumann, der står ved en skillevej i sit liv. Hendes verdenskendte cirkuskarriere er tæt på at være slut, da ingen i familien vil videreføre hendes livsværk. I et forsøg på at bevare sin arv åbner Katja op for den unge Liv, der søger at lære hendes unikke hestehåndtering. Katja konfronteres med sin indre konflikt: Kan hun, give slip på sine strenge traditioner og overlade sin kunst til en ny generation?
