The Act of Killing wins BAFTA award

AWARD. With less than two weeks until the Oscars, Britain's BAFTAs brought yet another accolade to Joshua Oppenheimer's "The Act of Killing".

Joshua Oppenheimer's "The Act of Killing" won Best Documentary at the BAFTAs 2014 held on Sunday in London's Royal Opera House.

"'The Act of Killing' is helping to catalyse a change in how Indonesia talks about its past. The media and the public are finally talking about the moral catastrofe of the genocide in 1965 without fear," the director said in his acceptance speech.

Produced by Danish company Final Cut for Real, "The Act of Killing" is in the run for Best Documentary Feature at the Oscars on 2 March. The film has brought home numerous awards since premiering at the Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals including, most recently, two Cinema Eye Honors, an Asia Pacific Screen Award and the BritDoc Puma Impact Award.

The other nominees in BAFTA's documentary category were "The Armstrong Lie" by Alex Gibney, "Blackfish" by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, "Tim's Vermeer" by Teller, and "We Steal Secrets: The Story Of Wikileaks" by Alex Gibney.
