Anders Riis-Hansen New Commissioner

NEW AT DFI. Anders Riis-Hansen, new commissioner for documentary films from 1 September, comes with 30 years of experience in the Danish film and television industry.

A director, journalist and TV producer, Anders Riis-Hansen has directed notable documentaries such as "The Circus Dynasty," selected for IDFA 2014, and "Blekingegadebanden – The Invisible Cell," which was awarded the Danish film critics' Bodil award for best documentary in 2010.

He has twice served as commissioning editor at national broadcaster DR, where his career in television started in 1986 in DR's children and youth department. Anders Riis-Hansen was, together with producer Malene Flindt Pedersen, previously co-owner of production company Hansen & Pedersen Film og Fjernsyn.

Commissioner System

The DFI film commissioner system aims at supporting the best projects on the merit of their content and artistic quality. Each of the six DFI film commissioners performs a subjective assessment that is grounded in a professionally competent analysis, and each is backed by a DFI producer who provides an assessment of the project's financial and technical aspects.

Claus Ladegaard, head of Film Support at the Danish Film Institute, says about the appointment of Anders Riis-Hansen:

"We are very pleased to appoint Anders Riis-Hansen as new commissioner. Anders comes with rich experience from the Danish film and television industry. He has worked as a director, producer, consultant and editor – and his many and diverse insights into the industry will be vital in our continued efforts to develop and support Danish documentaries."

Anders Riis-Hansen's primary responsibility as new documentary film commissioner will be to perform an artistic evaluation of documentary projects applying for development and production funding and recommend suitable projects for approval.

Anders Riis-Hansen replaces Helle Hansen and joins the Danish Film Institute on 1 September 2016.
