Limbo showered with nominations

VIDEO GAMES. Danish black and white "Limbo" steals the spotlight at the digital games industry's major awards event.

A tiny boy with fiery eyes has achieved what no other video game has achieved before: to be nominated in no less than seven of ten categories for the Game Developers Choice Awards, including Game of the Year for the best game release in 2010.

Thus Danish Xbox hit and IGF prizewinner "Limbo" has overtaken giants such as the western-themed "Red Dead Redemption" (6 nominations), the sci-fi epic "Mass Effect 2" (5 nominations) and the huge commercial hit "Call of Duty: Black Ops"(2 nominations).

In the run for the Game of the Year "Limbo" is joined by "Red Dead Redemption", "Mass Effect 2", "Call of Duty: Black Ops" and "Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood", all made on budgets that stand in sharp contrast to Danish indie developer Playdead's puzzle-and-platform game.

The 11th annual Game Developers Choice Awards will take place on 2 March during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

"Limbo" is developed with grants from the Danish Film Institute, which supports Danish talent in developing video games for children and youth.
