Ilulissiat is a settlement in the freezing wastes of Northern Greenland inhabited by hunters and fishermen, with five police officers, a magistrate and a very high violent crime rate. Naalu Jerimiassen, the mother of four children, and Jens Reimer, are both on remand. She killed her husband; he beat up his wife. Neither remembers exactly what happened.
"We can't just evict people from the community. We need everyone, and we must accept whomever we've got", the magistrate says. Traditionally the little community has very much forgiven anyone "who made a mistake". But its way of life is dying out and in the future there may not be room for so much tolerance. This documentary follows the two detainees until sentence is pronounced in the tiny courtroom.
