Director Mette Korsgaard considers herself a feminist and a gender equality advocate. She cannot understand why her husband, the high-profile journalist Niels, won't fight for women's rights, considering how many other issues he's willing to fight for. When their daughter Marie decides to study engineering, and Niels becomes aware of the fact that Marie is treated differently from the men in her field, his interest in the topic is aroused. At the same time, the director realizes that she herself is a male chauvinist. To understand it all, she starts studying herself, her own family, films, art, and consults the scientific world to gain insight into how our subconscious notions about gender impact our opportunities in life. Do we unconsciously prefer men to women?
