In Nicaragua abortion in all it's forms is prohibited by law. Even if a pregnancy proves mortal to a woman, she would be imprisoned for opting a therapeutic abortion. This situation is the effect of a pact made between Nicaragua's president, the former socialist revolutionary, Daniel Ortega, and the powerful Catholic Church prior to the elections in 2006.
