Born 1965, Denmark. Apprenticeship in animation at the studios of Jannik Hastrup, Tegnedrengene and Liller Møller. Graduated in animation at the National Film School of Denmark, 1994, and in 2002 she finished training at Artbizz as an art and project consultant.
Vilstrup's short fiction film "Et hundeliv"/"A Shaggy Dog Story" (1996) received Best Animation Film Award and Best Art Direction at the Albany International Film Festival, while her feature film debut "Zafir" (2003) was honoured with a Special Prize at Chicago.
