Susanne Bier opens doors

ACADEMY AWARDS. "An Oscar to 'In a Better World' is a great triumph for Danish cinema!" says a pleased Henrik Bo Nielsen, CEO of the Danish Film Institute, who took part in the Oscar celebrations at the Kodak Theatre.

"I'm pleased and proud, on the part of both Susanne Bier and Danish cinema," says Henrik Bo Nielsen, CEO of the DFI, after Bier's Oscar win Sunday night.

"You can't overestimate the importance of winning an award like the Oscars. It generates a lot of attention for Danish films, commercially as well as artistically. An Oscar opens doors to international markets, particularly the US market which can be quite a difficult one to penetrate," says Henrik Bo Nielsen.

"And the good part is that once these doors open, Danish filmmakers are ready and set to go. Right now there's lots of talent and courage in the Danish film industry on the lookout for international partnerships."

North American distributor for "In a Better World" is Sony Pictures Classics who have announced the film's US release for 1 April 2011.
