I 1932 rejser en ældre engelsk kvinde, Alice Hargreaves, til USA for som æresgæst at deltage i festlighederne i anledning af 100 året for Lewis Carrolls fødsel. Hun var nemlig den lille pige som Lewis Carroll fortalte sine historier om Alice i Eventyrland. Under opholdet i USA forstår Alice Hargreaves, hvor meget hun betød for Lewis Carroll.
