Mahdi Fleifel

Director. Born 25/10 1979 in Dubai, lived in the Palestinian Ain el-Helweh refugee camp in Lebanon for two years before moving to Denmark with his family in 1988. Graduated as a fiction director from the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield, UK, in 2009.



Fleifel made his film debut with the feature-length documentary "A World Not Ours" (2012), which received the Peace Film Award at the Berlinale and several other awards and nominations. The documentary depicts life in the Ain el-Helweh refugee camp in Lebanon where the director spent his early childhood years before coming to Denmark.



Life in the refugee camp is also the theme of the documentaries "Xenos" (2014) and "A Man Returned" (2016). Both films were selected for the Berlinale, where the latter won a Silver Bear for Best Short Film.



Fleifel made his debut as fiction director with the short "A Drowning Man" (2017) selected for the Short Films Competition at the Cannes Festival.
