The Ærø residents are concerned when the municipal council decides to open two centers to host unaccompanied asylumseeking boys from Syria, Afghanistan, Eritrea and Kuwait during the winter 2014-15. For six years Helle Toft Jensen has documented the bonds created between the newcomers and the Ærø residents. We get to know: Rie – an employee at the center whose perspective on life changes through her job, Emma - a young volunteer at the center, Rita and Ralde who take Hamed under their protection, the sailor Hans, and the the police officer Lennart. With them we witness how Hadji, Jacob, Ali and Ezatullah try to find their way in life, waiting for an answer in their asylum cases.
