The Boy who wanted to be a Bear

Anja Dalhoff, Denmark, 1999

31 min.DK/Short fictionChildren's films

The 12-year-old Pablo dreams of becoming initiated as a bear, i.e. the chosen representative of a village, the one in contact with the gods. Pablo, however, does not attend to his job as a shepherd, and is consequently punished by the gods. After consulting the local medicine man he is sent off to work at a coffee plantation, but eventually his father comes for him. Pablo is going to participate in the annual pilgrimage to the God of the Snow Mountains, and as a result of that his dream of becoming initiated as a bear is awakened once more.
