Shepherd Lonely

Frederik Jacobi, Denmark, 2016

15 min.DK/Short fiction

A Desolate mineral Exploration camp in Northern Greenland. The Drilling Crew has gone mad and turned to ritual in their hunt for rare earth, when a young scientist arrives late in the season to collect glacial melt data from a remote sensing unit. He is anxious and afraid of the eternal landscape that points to something unknown inside himself. His contact, the camp geologist, has gone missing and he now faces a hostile crew with no time for scientific agendas. He attempts to reach the sensor on his own but he is not alone - something is out there stalking him. The crew takes him back to camp where he faces the station chief in a rite of passage that leads him back into nature and the very ice he came to study.
