Ethnic diversity

Danish film must reflect the ethnic diversity in society. A number of initiatives are set up to strengthen the cultural diversity of Danish film.

The Danish Film Institute's efforts to create greater cultural and ethnic diversity in Danish film is based on a charter (in Danish) developed with broad support from the audiovisual industry.

A number of initiatives focusing on sharing knowledge and changing practice have been implemented:

Casting directors have held workshops for amateurs and professional actors of non-Danish ethnicity and created a bank of names to be used by casting directors throughout the country. A mentor programme has been set up, where experienced filmmakers, including producers, directors and screenwriters, help young colleagues get a foot in the door of the business. Plans are also being drawn up for a special internship programme at production companies.
