In the Danish provincial town of Viborg, there is seemingly nothing new under the sun. The former beauty queen Solvej lives isolated with her old routines and the cultivation of old, shattered dreams. On her scooter, she roams around with her dog, Poul Reichardt, supplementing her pension by dealing her prescription medication. The neighbour's daughter, rebellious 17-year-old Kate, has no clue what to do with herself and her life. In a fit of boredom, she breaks into the neighbouring apartment where she is surprised by Solvej. Reluctantly, an unlikely friendship forms, as the sorrows of the past are revealed and hope for the future emerges.
