Trine Dyrholm to star in period drama about Nordic monarch Margrete The First

IN PRODUCTION. Charlotte Sieling, known as director of major series such as 'The Killing', 'The Bridge' and 'Homeland', will soon begin production on her historical drama 'Margrete – Queen of the North'. Trine Dyrholm is set to play the title role in the film with expected release in 2021.

The upcoming historical epic 'Margrete – Queen of the North' tells the story of Margrete who ruled from 1387 to 1412 and united the kingdoms of Denmark, Sweden and Norway under the Kalmar Union.

Charlotte Sieling will direct the drama featuring Trine Dyrholm, who recently turned heads for her performance as another type of queen in May el-Toukhy's Sundance winner 'Queen of Hearts'.

The year is 1402. Margrete has achieved what no man has managed before. She has gathered Denmark, Norway and Sweden into a peace-oriented union, which she singlehandedly rules through her young, adopted son, Erik. However, the union is beset by enemies, and Margrete is therefore planning a marriage between Erik and an English princess. An alliance with England should secure the union’s status as an emerging European power but a conspiracy is under way that can tear Margrete and all she believes in apart.
