Danish Films 2016 – The Critic's Seven Favourites

The Cinematheque asked Nanna Frank Rasmussen, film critic at the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten, to select her seven favourite Danish films from 2016. Her choice fell on these titles, playing in March and April: "Parents," "Shelley," "Where Have All the Good Men Gone," "The Commune," "Get Santa," "Across the Waters" and "Jacob Holdt: My Life in Pictures." All, except the latter film, will be screening with English subtitles.
Six of seven films with English subtitles / 1 March – 22 April

David Lynch – Film, Art, Coffee and Twin Peaks

The big David Lynch retrospective continues in March and April, with screenings of Lynch's films from the 90s and 00s accompanied by a number of events covering the many facets of the renowned filmmaker, including coffee and cherry pie, a "Twin Peaks" quiz, talks and an exploration of Lynch's meditational practice.

Catalan Film Festival – Concerts, Films and Tastings

Explore the Catalan identity from different angles, both historical and current, when the Cinematheque rolls out the red carpet for the fifth edition of the Copenhagen Catalan Film Festival. This year's programme consists of five new films offering a many-sided view of the Catalan society. In addition to film screenings, there will be concerts, director visits and tastings. All films are shown with English subtitles.
Five films plus a screening of short films / 1-5 March

Keys to "La La Land" – Sources of Inspiration

Watching Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in Damien Chazelle's "La La Land" leaves no doubt that the musical genre is alive and kicking. Watch or revisit the iconic musicals "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" and "An American in Paris," and experience Chazelle's own "Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench" from 2009, the director's preliminary study for "La La Land."
Three films / 4 March – 10 April

Danish on a Sunday – Danish Films with Subtitles

Twice a month the Cinematheque presents Danish films, current or classic, with English subtitles for our non-Danish speaking audiences. On the bill for March are "Democrats" (5 March) by Camilla Nielsson, chronicling the bumpy road to Zimbabwe's new constitution, and "In the Blood" (12 March), a story set during one summer in Copenhagen about Simon and his friends as they experience the inevitable change from youth to adulthood. Read interviews with the directors: On the Road to Democracy and Life's Sweet Summer.
Two films / 5 and 12 March
