Originally ASA Film was founded by John Olsen, Lau Lauritzen Jr. and Henning Karmark in 1936, but in 1990 producer Henrik Møller-Sørensen took over the company.
ASA is behind the Father of Four film-series, which has been some of the best selling films in Denmark since 2005. The youth- and children's film "The Contest - to the Stars and back" (Martin Miehe-Renard, 2013), about an immigrant girl who wins the Danish version of the Eurovision Song Contest for Kids despite her parents' resistance, was selected for the Generation Kplus-program at Berlin International Film Festival and was subsequently nominated for a European Film Academy Young Audience Award in 2014.
