Hagen has worked as an animator in various roles since the 1980s, such as VFX supervisor on 'Help I am a Fish' (2000) and 'Asterix and the Vikings' (2006). He directed the animation short films 'Will-Bot in Friend or Foe' (2011) and 'Crashlanded' (2014).
He has also served as member of the school advisory board at The Animation Workshop in Viborg, where he has also taught.
Hagen made his feature film debut as a director on 'Dreambuilders' (2020).
