Entries are invited for GRIERSON 2011: The British Documentary Awards. The Grierson Awards - for factual programmes and documentaries - recognise outstanding films that demonstrate integrity, originality and technical excellence, and social or cultural significance.
Entries are invited for GRIERSON 2011: The British Documentary Awards. The Grierson Awards - for factual programmes and documentaries - recognise outstanding films that demonstrate integrity, originality and technical excellence, and social or cultural significance.
All categories are open to documentaries made anywhere in the world so long as they have had a first UK screening during the qualifying period, 1 May 2010 - 30 April 2011.
The award categories are:
BEST DOCUMENTARY ON A CONTEMPORARY THEME - DOMESTIC NEW
BEST DOCUMENTARY ON A CONTEMPORARY THEME - INTERNATIONAL NEW
BEST DOCUMENTARY ON THE ARTS
BEST HISTORICAL DOCUMENTARY
BEST SCIENCE DOCUMENTARY
MOST ENTERTAINING DOCUMENTARY
BEST DOCUMENTARY SERIES
BEST CINEMA DOCUMENTARY
BEST NEWCOMER DOCUMENTARY (carries a cash prize of £3,000)
BEST STUDENT DOCUMENTARY (carries a cash prize of £3,000) NEW

A shortlist of eight entries for each category will be announced on 1 August and the final four nominations in each category on 19 September. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at the BFI Southbank in London on the evening of 1 November.
